A fresh controversy has emerged in Jammu over the implementation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) provisions, with members of the Swarn community announcing plans to hold a rally in Jammu city demanding a rollback. The organizers have raised concerns over what they described as certain aspects of the UGC implementation being incorrect and not in the interest of the community.
During the announcement, the organizers also questioned the silence of MLAs belonging to the Swarn community, alleging that they have not raised their voice strongly enough on the issue. They demanded that elected representatives come forward and take up the matter with the government.
The protesters maintained that the present implementation needs to be reviewed and necessary changes should be made. They said the demand for rollback is aimed at addressing what they consider to be discrepancies in the current system and ensuring that the concerns of the affected community are heard.
The proposed rally is expected to bring the issue into greater public and political focus in Jammu. The organizers warned that if the government fails to respond to their demands, the Swarn community could intensify its agitation and take to the streets in larger numbers. They asserted that the government must listen to their concerns and reconsider the implementation, while calling upon community representatives and MLAs to actively support the demand.
