MP Er Rashid’s demand for Green Corridor for fruit-laden trucks on NH-44 receives Nitin Gadkari’s attention: AIP
Kupwara, August 29: Speaking to horticultural growers in Kupwara today, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said that the demand raised by AIP President and Lok Sabha Member Er. Rashid for a dedicated Green Corridor for fruit-laden trucks on NH-44 has received the attention of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
Inam Un Nabi said Er. Rashid had taken up the matter through Letter No. MPLS/Hqsgr/1431 dated 02.08.2026, seeking a dedicated Green Corridor at Qazigund, Banihal and vulnerable stretches of NH-44 to ensure uninterrupted movement of perishable horticultural produce from Kashmir.m
Inam Un Nabi said the Ministry, through its communication No. 266023/M (RT&H)/VIP/2026 dated 19.08.2026, has conveyed that the matter is “being looked into for action.”
Welcoming the response, Inam Un Nabi said, “This is an important issue for Kashmir’s horticultural economy. Thousands of growers depend on timely transportation of their fruit to markets outside the Valley. Any prolonged halt or disruption on NH-44 can result in huge losses to growers.”
Inam Un Nabi said the proposed Green Corridor, if implemented effectively, will bring much-needed relief to the entire community of fruit growers across Kashmir by ensuring priority and uninterrupted movement of fruit-laden trucks during the peak horticulture season.
“Er. Rashid has raised this demand keeping in view the genuine difficulties faced by our growers. We appreciate Nitin Gadkari Ji and his Ministry for taking cognisance of the matter. We hope the assurance of action will soon translate into a clear mechanism on the ground,” he added.
Inam further said that the Green Corridor should cover the critical stretches of NH-44, particularly Qazigund and Banihal, and remain operational during the peak fruit season so that Kashmir’s horticultural produce reaches national markets without avoidable delays.
AIP will continue to pursue the matter until a practical and permanent arrangement is put in place for the smooth movement of fruit-laden trucks from Kashmir.
