DC Udhampur Inspects NH-44, Directs Speedy Debris Clearance

Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa conducted an extensive inspection of National Highway-44 (NH-44) from Udhampur to Chenani to assess the status of debris clearance and ongoing road-repair works. During the inspection, the DC reviewed the condition of landslide-affected stretches and took stock of the measures being undertaken to restore normal traffic movement on the important highway.

Minga Sherpa directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite the clearance of debris from affected portions of the highway and ensure that road-repair works are completed at the earliest. He stressed the need for timely action, particularly on stretches impacted by landslides, to minimise inconvenience to commuters and ensure safer travel conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed NHAI officials and the Traffic Police to maintain close coordination and ensure effective traffic management along NH-44. He emphasised that smooth, safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles should be prioritised, especially on vulnerable stretches where road conditions may affect traffic flow.

The inspection comes amid ongoing efforts to maintain the vital highway connectivity between Udhampur and Chenani. Authorities have been asked to remain vigilant and respond promptly to any further disruption caused by debris or adverse weather conditions. The administration reiterated its focus on ensuring road safety, faster restoration works and hassle-free movement for commuters and transporters using the highway.
