Jammu Police Arrest Man Carrying 18-Inch Sharp-Edged Weapon in Channi Himmat

Jammu, August 30: Jammu Police continued its efforts to prevent illegal weapons and maintain public safety with the apprehension of a man carrying a sharp-edged weapon during night patrolling in the Channi Himmat area of Jammu.

The incident took place on the intervening night of August 28 and 29, 2026, in the Shamshan Ghat Morh area. According to police, at around 11:20 PM on August 28, a patrolling party noticed a person approaching from the Trikuta Nagar side under suspicious circumstances. As the individual noticed the police naka, he allegedly attempted to flee from the spot. The alert patrolling team immediately responded and overpowered and apprehended him.

During questioning, the apprehended person identified himself as Akshay Sharma, son of Ved Parkash, a resident of Ward No. 02, near Radha Krishan Mandir, Jassore, R.S. Pura, Jammu. Police subsequently conducted his personal search, during which an approximately 18-inch-long sharp-edged Toka was recovered from his possession.

Following the recovery, Police Station Channi Himmat registered FIR No. 243/2026 under Section 4/25 of the Arms Act. Further investigation has been initiated to determine why the accused was carrying the weapon and whether the recovery has any connection with other criminal activities.

Police said the timely intervention during night patrolling helped prevent the movement of an illegal weapon in the area. The action also highlights the importance of regular naka checking and night patrols in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of residents.

Jammu Police has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against individuals found in possession of illegal weapons and other items that could pose a threat to public safety. The investigation in the case is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
